The Hero’s Journey is a story told over and over, throughout human history. A story told in many ways by many different cultures. This rich and ancient template contains elements and archetypes that reside in the human psyche, and follows a predictable pattern, whether we encounter that pattern in Greco/Roman mythology, African folklore, or in the plotline of a modern television show.
This journey meets the Hero – who is each one of us – in a place of complacency or immobility and presents him or her with a call to action, a Call to Adventure. The Hero answers the call and steps onto a road fraught with trials and triumphs. We accept what must be sacrificed so that the journey may continue, we acknowledge mentors and discover both allies and enemies. Just when we think our work is done, when the wandering Hero is just steps away from returning home, he or she is purified by a last sacrifice, severely tested in a moment of death and rebirth that finally resolves the polarities that were in conflict at the beginning of the journey, healing the Hero’s psyche and the community he or she returns to, bringing gifts of wisdom and strength.
Join us on the Hero’s Journey. This weekend will take us through the highlights of that archetypal adventure, culminating with a ritual Saturday night of resignation and resurrection. We will die, rise again, and connect Sunday morning to share and integrate our experiences.
