Autumn offerings

autumnnightThe universe has gifts beyond imagining, they say.
I say: Put that to the test. Imagine impossible things.
Dream that which you cannot possibly deserve.
Pretend that the whole world is bent to that undeserving manifestation.

See as if, in the violet moment between Light and Dark,
The last flicker of Summer’s brightness can last forever.
Breathe as if, in the violet moment between Light and Dark,
The first gasp of Autumn’s descent is eternal.
Act as if, in the violet moment between Light and Dark,
It is the Universe that seeks to prove itself worthy.

“I believe deeply that to gain anything, you must surrender something.
Conversely, anything that you surrender, you must gain something back.”

What lies beyond “Not this?”
The light is surrendered this night. What might be gained on the other side of such an offering?
What is deserving of our sacred, open hands?

The quote around which this little piece is built comes from a lovely recent episode of This American Life. It’s in a letter from a father to his son, in the first real verbal interaction they have despite living together for 14 years. It’s a really neat story, and I recommend checking it out if you’re into that sort of thing.

Beautiful. I will be meditating on this and comment later. My mom just passed last night. Her heart gave out. Earlier she told us that she would be having lunch with Jesus so friends and I are meditating on this at lunch today. For me, the multiverse provides for every being. Thank you for providing food for thought. ❤️

I love this, Jason! “What lies beyond ‘not this’?” I feel a lump in my throat considering that question. I have grief with so many “no’s”. Thank you for your words.
